I have a question about my new clutch?
I have a 92 honda civic ex 1.6. I’m getting ready to take a long road trip and the clutch felt pretty soft, and worn. I took it to a shop, i had a luk pressure plate, disc, and throw out bearing put in. It felt great for about 20 minutes- I got on the freeway pushed the clutch in, shifted let off the clutch and all the sudden i felt and heard a hard loud snap and my car wouldn’t move, but i could put it in gear with out the clutch and obviously it wouldn’t move. The clutch still had pressure tho. Another weird thing i noticed before i got it towed was when i’d press on the gas the spedometer would move as if i was actually moving but i wasn’t.
It’s sitting at the shop right now, and it won’t get looked at till tomorrow- i’m just curious what I have to look forward too. Anyone have an idea what may have happened? I’m pretty concerned.
Sounds to me like a CV joint broke. (front axle)
They’re about $80 each plus 1 hour labor.
If you’re doing one side, you might as well do the other side because it’s going to break soon.

sounds like the input shaft to the transmission snapped, I’m going to bet bell housing bolts were loose or something, (improper install some how) its not normal for input shaft to break, this normally happens when housing bolts are loose and tranny is hanging from in-put shaft instead of being supported by bolts. Go look at it and see if tranny isn’t seperated from engine BEFORE the mechanic gets to it most will tell you shaft broke but not WHY it snapped. as little as 1/2 inch is enough to break shaft off.
repair for this is a new tranny

I think that the drive axles from the shop didn’t put your drive axles in right and caused the problem. The shop is responsible for screwing up on it so it should not cost you anything for there screw up.

maybe the clutch cable snapped.

I’d say something happened to one of the CV axles. Since the speedometer moves while sitting still, It’s obvious to me the clutch engages and is turning the transmission.
